Ep #42 – My guest this week is Tom Burden, a former Air Force F-16 weapons mechanic, that went on to create and sell Grypmat, a flexible, non-slip rubber mat he invented to hold tools. He raised $700,000 to build the business from Kickstarter and Shark Tank, where backers included Richard Branson. The product has gone on to be featured on the cover of Time Magazine and helped Tom to be featured in the Forbes 30 Under 30. The business has grown to doing $4 million in revenue in 2019, more than double what it brought in during 2018. Tom is now planning an expansion into retail, with a lower-priced, smaller-version of the Grypmat for home mechanics.
