It’s a travesty (as well as a goldmine of opportunity) knowing that many entrepreneurs base their entire marketing plan on one or two sources of revenue.

Perhaps this source is a form of advertising (newspaper, magazine, PPC, contextual, media buys, Yellow Pages, etc.), search engine optimization, social media, affiliate marketing, content marketing, direct mail, word-of-mouth referrals, public relations … and the list goes on … with anywhere from 80% – 100% of their revenue coming from one or two of those places.

If this sounds like you, you’re not alone.

  • I know of a $5 million dollar finance company that has 95% of all their leads coming from Yellow Page ads;
  • Several multi-million dollar websites that are 100% reliant on their search engine placement;
  • And a leading contractor who blissfully gets almost all of his business through word-of-mouth referrals;
  • A multi-million dollar info-marketing company that generates 90% of all their business through affiliate marketing;
  • Heck, early in my career, I was grossing over $26,000 a month from just one of my websites exclusively from pay-per-click advertising!

And I’m just scratching the surface….

Right now, life is good for them.  They’re making money hand over fist and they’re comfortable in their situation.

Until …

 BAM! The inevitable happens.

 Something changes and the rug gets pulled right out from underneath them.

 Think I’m crazy?

Thousands of businesses went out-of-business almost overnight when Google changed their new search algorithm and entrepreneurs saw their web traffic go from thousands per day … down to almost nothing.

Millions of dollars were vanished when Google banned countless advertising accounts for (often unknowingly) violating an obscure rule buried inside of their terms and conditions (thankfully, this wasn’t my case … but, they did shut off my traffic … and gave me no direct explanation for the cause … leaving me high and dry with a website that turned nearly worthless overnight.)

Economic gyrations have also stimulated a whole slew of changes that are only beginning to rear their ugly heads to the public.

Just because you have word-of-mouth referrals today … doesn’t mean that your immune to this type of ‘profit leprosy’ where things just start falling apart around you.

If it’s not a technological change or an economic policy … it could even be your competition that changes the rules of the game.

Let’s face it, your competitors desperately want more customers

… and they want your customers too!

 There will always be someone stepping on your heels trying to get an edge over you to out-market and out-compete for your customers.

 Now’s the time to step up and use the momentum you’ve
already built in your marketplace to become
an even more dominant player!

 You can do it.  It’s not that hard.

It’s just as easy changing your mindset from being complacent to becoming strategic and going from building one or two pillars of income to creating a dozen or more.

Just imagine making money from so many different places that if even just one of them got shut off – you wouldn’t blink an eye!

It’s all part of building a long-lasting and dominant company as part of the Predictable Profits business building forumula.

As an old Chinese proverb states:  “Dig the well before you’re thirsty.”

Open the possibilities to other pillars of income and actively include them into your overall marketing system.
